Work from the unannotated source when possible
The original photo is always the best option. If it is unavailable, use the highest-resolution annotated copy and avoid repeatedly saving it as a compressed image before editing.

- Keep the selection close to the markup, especially near lines, faces, and borders.

Why one annotation at a time helps
